Heavy northbound Interstate 95 traffic near Edgewood in Harford County was forced to turn around and take detours after at least two vehicles collided on the highway Sunday afternoon, said State Police at the John F. Kennedy Barracks. Shortly before 4 p.m., a sport utility vehicle collided with at least one vehicle near the Edgewood exit and brought traffic to a temporary halt. Police said an undetermined number of people were taken by ambulances to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. Police said that due to the crash and removal of the damaged vehicles, traffic was backed up for "quite a bit" and was finally rerouted to U.S. 40 before re-entering I-95 beyond the accident scene. The accident was being investigated by a State Police crash team.

Maryland is giving drivers who are caught by speed cameras in work zones at least two more weeks before they face $40 fines. The State Highway Administration, Maryland Transportation Authority and the Maryland State Police said they are extending the one-month grace period that began when the state's new speed camera law took effect Oct. 1. According to the highway administration, more than 900 warnings have gone out to drivers who were exceeding the speed limit in work zones by at least 12 mph. SHA spokeswoman Valerie Burnette Edgar said the warning period was extended because it took about two weeks after Oct. 1 for the first warnings to be processed and sent out.
