Jurors dismissed after sending note saying 'things are getting a little overheated'

The jury in the criminal theft trial of Mayor Sheila Dixon was dismissed for the day a few minutes before 4 p.m. Friday, with deliberations set to resume at 9 a.m. Monday. Jury deliberations continued well into the afternoon as 12 city residents decide the fate of Dixon, who stands accused of five criminal charges involving theft or embezzlement of gift cards. At about 3:40 p.m., jurors sent a note that read: "Things are getting a little overheated. May we be dismissed for the day?"

Searching for another way to help, Chris Coffland joined the Army

The remains of Army Spc. Christopher Coffland are carried off a plane at Dover Air Force Base, Del. Coffland was killed by a bomb Nov. 13 in Afghanistan. Because settling was never in his marrow, Coffland, a Baltimore native, joined the Army as an intelligence specialist at an age when most men are working 9-to-5 and driving the kids to school. His biography suggests a man auditioning to become the next Indiana Jones.

Senior forward scores career-high 24 points against Wildcats

Maryland coach Gary Williams insisted this week that his Terps wouldn't be distracted by the thought of their impending trip to paradise and potential matchups with other high-profile teams in this year's Maui Invitational. Maybe Maryland just pretended that New Hampshire was another school located in a place called Durham.
