William Wyler's 1946 The Best Years of Our Lives , a film about veterans returning home from war, changed in ways even they (much less those they left behind) don't fully understand, airs at 5 p.m. today on TCM. The film won a plethora of Oscars, including Best Picture, Director, Actor (Fredric March), Supporting Actor (Harold Russell) and Screenplay (Robert E. Sherwood). Six decades on, and it's still the definitive movie of its kind, with scenes of tremendous power. There's the solemn moment where bombardier Fred Derry (Dana Andrews) visits a junkyard of scrapped Air Force bombers and realizes he's no-less obsolete; the joy of Army Sgt. Al Stephenson (March) wordlessly reuniting with his wife; the heartbreak of Navy seaman Homer Parrish (Russell), who has learned to do everything with his artificial limbs except wrap them around his girlfriend.<img src="http://feeds.baltimoresun.com/~r/baltimoresun/entertainment/tv/rss2/~4/384851566" height="1" width="1"/>
